Today I spent a happy hour cutting around my collages with a laser cutting machine. Over the last few months I have started collaging onto plywood rather than stretched paper, so that I can cut the finished image out like a giant jigsaw piece. Cutting out my collages has been immensely exciting and made my work far more striking. The uneven edges of my collage can now be clearly seen. I am feeling very cheerful and relieved! My collages are very intricate and take days and sometimes even weeks to complete. I am learning how to draw vectors in my computer, which then instruct the laser machine exactly where to cut. I live in fear that I will programme the outline incorrectly and inadvertently cut a precious collage in half! Luckily all went well this morning and I am extremely grateful to Michelle the laser-cutting expert for her support and advice!
